What color should we paint the walls in our house if we plan to sell the house in 2 years?
My husband and I are planning to paint walls in our house in the upcoming weeks.
We plan to sell the house in 2 years. Otherwise we would just choose colors we enjoy and not worry about what other people might like.
Are there any certain colors we should paint the living room, bedrooms (2), kitchen, and bathroom of a house to make it look appealing to potential buyers?

Watch the home shows on the HGC "House and Garden" channel. The expert real estate agents recommend lighter pastels, beige hints of green or sky blue.

Navajo White, which is I think sold by Home Depot, is an extremely popular color with both homeowners and decorators. It’s about as neutral and off-white a color as you can get.

Paint all the walls magnolia and all the woodwork white (or leave it woodstained if it is not painted already). This way you will not put anyone off by offending them with a colour scheme that they might not like. If it is neutral they can then decide one room at a time if they wish to change it. Also by doing everything in Magnolia you can touch it up if necessary before you sell it as you are bound to get knocks and grubby marks in places during the next couple of years. Keep the tin handy so that you can just paint over the bits that need doing – it saves having to paint the whole room or house again. The other thing about Magnolia is that you can brighten it up with vivid soft furnishings to your own taste. Splashes of colour on cushions, curtains, and ornaments look fantastic against a pale neutral background and it costs a lot less to change those when it takes your fancy than s=to start redecorating again.

The experts always say off-white to cream colored…that way it doesn’t turn away potential buyers because it is some weird shade of purple.

I would suggest beiges and beige/grays. Go light. A couple of shades darker than white.
Also, to make it easy, paint the whole house the same color. Use latex flat white on the ceilings if they need painting too.
Use interior latex (water base) throughout.
You should use a satin finish throughout, except the ceilings.
Satin finish has a very light sheen that cleans well in case you need to wipe any marks off before moving.
I like Olympic 0 VOC interior latex found at Lowes for $22. a gallon. No odor, environmentally friendly, great price and goes on beautifully. 100′s of colors. Bring lots of paint charts home to find the best color/s.
Don’t leave out the prep work. Use lightweight patching compound and a putty knife to fix all small holes and dents. Sand when dry with fine sandpaper. Vac away all dust, cobwebs, dirt, etc before painting. Wash any bad marks off the walls.
Paint over the sanded/patched areas with some of the paint you are using. Allow to dry for 30 mins then paint the entire wall.
If you have any walls with lots of patching or that have dark color existing paint, then prime them first with Kilz2 latex primer $17. a gallon. One coat should be enough.
Get a good quality brush, 2"-2 1/2" angled or straight. About $10. A good brush WILL make a difference.
Doing the above will give your house a professional looking paint job.
