How long can a person stay in their house after selling it?

I’m confused about the time period you are giving after someone buys the house. Long story short, my mom is selling the house where i live at, i don’t pay any rent, nor does my room mate. But she believes, that after she sells the house, we all have to move out right away. But finding a place in California can be a pain, so I was wondering how many months can a person stay in the house after it’s been sold? or is there such a thing?

You aren’t serious are you? When you buy something, do you normally let the store keep it for a few months?? When the house is sold you need to be out or you are illegally in someone elses home and can be arrested. Your mom will know when the closing date is- be out before that date. The new owners can move in as soon as they sign the closing docs.
